Over 100,000 American adults entered the Catholic Church at recent Easter services. In Los Angeles, 2,794 adults were expected for baptism or to make a profession of faith. 1,887 were expected down the coast in San Diego. On the East coast, Atlanta, deep in the "Bible Belt", expected 1,088 converts, including 457 baptisms.
The "2006 Official Catholic Directory" reported 80,817 adults baptized in the Catholic Church and 73,684 coming into full communion the previous year. In addition, there were 943,264 infant baptisms. It is estimated there will be about one million infant baptisms in U.S. Catholic churches during 2007.
The Catholic Church grew world-wide by about 17 million during 2006.
