Lieing to Catholics
As I was following up on my blog marketing efforts, I spotted the below ad clearly targted at Catholics. The ad was triggered by the "Catholic" tag that accompanies some CAS posts.
The first giveaway that this is NOT a Catholic blog is the common error of using the derogatory title "Roman Catholic" versus the correct title "Catholic". A true Catholic blog is unlikely to have made that error.
The second giveaway is the phrase "1000's of pictures" which is extremely unusual for any blog.
The third giveaway is the appeal to "beautiful Catholics" versus "devout Catholics" or similar.
I decided to click on the ad and discovered a dating portal seemingly targeted at Catholic singles. Being someone who works in marketing and teaches some aspects of marketing, I noted the lack of any Catholic images. No crucifixes, no religious jewelry on models, nothing distinctly Catholic. Nothing distinctively Christian either. Scrolling through the many testimonies, not one had anything distinctly Catholic or non-Catholic Christian. I might have entertained the notion that this truely was a Catholic dating portal had I read something like "After meeting on XYZzone, Thomas and I are attending Mass together... Francis" Also, the free registration asked no questions as to denomination, church attendance, or anything else remotely Catholic.
The dating site is clearly a worldly secular site attempting to gain Catholic customers with poor choices of images and text. Good luck with that. The site doesn't even appeal to non-Catholic Christians. There's nothing distinctively Christian, much more "Catholic".
But, its okay to lie to them. They're "Catholics".
Not according to my Bible...
